Atishoo! So your kitten is sneezing and you don't know what to do. First of all, know that a sneeze or two is often just that a kitten sneeze or two, nothing to worry about. However a kitten who is constantly sneezing may be demonstrating that she has a more serious condition. What are some reasons a kitten might sneeze?
Your kitten could be suffering from allergies. Did you know that kittens could be allergic to a big variety of things, juts like humans? These include allergies to dust, pollen, mold, cigarette smoke, chemicals, carpet cleaners, aerosols, candle smoke, dust in kitty litter and some other things. Just like when a human being gets hay fever, or is allergic to dust they often sneeze, a kitten with allergies often sneezes as a reaction.
The cat flu. If your kitten has a Upper Respiratory Infection she will show signs of sickness around her mouth, nose and sinuses. URI are highly contagious, and are caused by bacteria viruses, and fungi. If your kitten has a particularly bad case you may also notice her to have a fever, coughing, watery eyes and a wet nose. A kitten with the flu needs plenty of rest and fluids.
Sometimes a kitten manages to get a foreign object stuck inside her respiratory tract. Sometimes you will be able to dislodge the object yourself using a flashlight and tweezers. If you are unsure, or uncomfortable about doing this - take your kitten to your veterinarian. This is actually quite uncommon.
Although it is rare in young kittens, tooth decay may be the culprit behind your kittens sneezing. You will see these things if your kitten has tooth decay, bad breath, puss around the mouth and swollen gums. You need to take your kitten to the vet to get checked out, and to be advised about the necessary treatment.
If you notice continuous sneezing in your kitten, and you can't see clearly why, take your kitten to the veterinarian.
